The Bar may be small but is very well stocked.
As members of the British Institute of Innkeepers we pride ourselves on the quality of beers, wines and spirits that we keep.
We have been Cask Marque accredited for over18 years and have been in the
CAMRA
Good Beer Guide for the most of this time.
On our three hand pumps there is always something different for you to try; we use more than ten independent
SIBA
breweries, from Bay’s Brewery in Paignton, Devon to the west, Hop Back Brewery in Downton near Salisbury to the east, Goff's Brewery to the north, and from the south coast, the Dorset Brewing Company. Yeovil Ales Brewery is less than six miles away, and most of the breweries we use qualify for
CAMRA LocAle
status.
Camra’s definition of LacAle is: The Sustainable Communities Act, which
CAMRA
strongly supports, provides a definition of ‘local’ as up to thirty miles from the point of sale.
CAMRA
recommends that the distance is calculated from the pub to the brewery and should be based on the shortest driving distance.
Cask Marque
is a quality award scheme that we pay to be in, and is run by the brewers themselves to promote the quality of real ale by testing the temperature, flavour, aroma and clarity of the beer at least twice a year. All the assessors are head or senior brewers from member breweries who may arrive without notice at any time during opening hours. They take half a pint of beer from each real ale pump or barrel which they then test, and if you fall below the expected quality, your Cask Marque award can be taken away.
We also now have TARKA 4
a hand crafted Real Larger from Otter Ales along with their Cider made with the help of Aspall Cider.
We also have Award Winning Real Cider from our local cider producer just four miles away at Burrow Hill (They also do The Cider Brandy which we also have on the bar). We also have a cream-flow as well as tthree lagers
Tarka 4
, Backs Vier ( this is for those who have no taste buds), Stella Artois and Guinness.
For those who like to indulge in a wee dram our large selection of malt whiskies is hard to beat. You may not find Glen Morangie here, but you’ll find many others from the Highlands and Islands, and even some Lowland malts to whet your appetite. If you know what you like, or want to try something a little different, then come and try it at the Muddled Man.
